Rusticity began almost as a “fake etude” book; I wanted to create the feeling of four guitarists playing through a battered collection of old, sort-of-recognizable-but-not-really “rustic” folk tunes. Much like mine, their minds wander throughout, distractedly interrupting themselves or meandering away from these tunes in flights of counterpoint, or, in some cases, noodling.
